Audio Transfer Services / Archiving

The term audio transfer refers to the transfer or copying of previously recorded audio material from one medium to another. Audio transfer can also refer to a change in file format.

Examples of common audio transfers include:

  • Vinyl to CD
  • Cassette to CD
  • DAT to CD
  • Analog to Digital

Examples of common file format changes:

  • .WAV to .AIF
  • .AIF to .WAV
  • .WAV or .AIF to .MP3
  • Audio (sound files) to Data (backup for storage)

To Copy and Preserve

The purpose of audio transferring may simply be to make multiple copies of sound files or to preserve audio material from old media which is deteriorating and may otherwise be lost (e.g. out-of-print vinyl). Preserving music/sound in this manner is called archiving.
