Performance Mix / Live Audio
The term performance mix can refer to a number of different audio projects that require a stereo master mixdown from multiple sound files. The phrase show tape is often used interchangeably (though tape is no longer a commonly used format) with performance mix to refer to the same type of audio project
Choreographers
Choreographers are in constant need of performance mixes. Most dance compositions are written to multiple songs and the need often arises to have these songs mixed, blended and cross-faded from one to the next to create a cohesive and fluid whole.
Live Performers
This same technique is used to create live “show tapes” for performers that use a CD, iPOD, mini-disk player or other digital playback device for their live show. Hip-hop and R&B artists commonly use these types of mixes when performing live.
