Vocal Recording / Overdubs
Vocal recording is typically the final stage of the tracking process. Once the drums, bass, guitars, synths, samples and other instruments are recorded, the main vocal and backing vocals can be tracked.
Though this may be the final tracking stage for a band or other artist, it is the one and only stage of recording for other vocal professionals such as:
- Voiceover artists
- Spoken word poets
- Narrators
- A cappella singers
Overdubbing
Overdubbing refers to the process of recording a voice or instrumental on an unused track in synchronization with previously recorded tracks. It is a common practice in popular music to "double" a main vocal part, rap lyric, or chorus, particularly for solo singers who want to add thickness to a song (or section of a song) with multiple backup singing parts.
